Welcome to Kayaking
Fundamental skills course introducing the novice to paddling a kayak in calm sheltered water.
Rescue techniques at this level incorporate the use of a paddling partner and it is essential
for all Flat water certified paddlers to travel on the water with others who have been trained in the techniques of assisted rescues.

Beyond The Basics
This is a comprehensive and fun introduction to ocean paddling. This two-day program will focus on fundamental skills that are necessary to become a proficient paddler in ocean conditions. Topics will include safety, navigation, equipment, paddling strokes and rescues. We will focus on different assisted rescues and self-rescue techniques. These skills are essential if you plan on ocean paddling. Paddle Canada certification is available after the successful completion of this program.

Competent Sea Paddler
Paddle Canada Level 2/3 and BCU 4 Star Training
Guest Coach: Andy Stamp Level 5 BCU coach.
This program is designed to solidify all of your sea kayaking skills. During this course we will start linking strokes into manoeuvres. The program will include an expedition that will give you ample opportunity to practice your navigation, on water leadership, and expedition living. This will be an intensive 5-day program. Participants require Paddle Canada Level I or equivalent skills and must be in good physical condition. During the program you will get a first-hand look at the Bay of Fundy, which boasts the highest tides in the world. This location will provide many different options for us.
The certification available with the successful completion of this program are:
Paddle Canada Level 2 or 3 and BCU 4 Star Training and Assessment as well as Coastal Navigation Planning

Advanced Coastal Paddling
Paddle Canada Level 4 and BCU 4/5 Star Training
Guest coach: Nick Cunliffe BCU level 5 sea coach
Participants will focus on the skills necessary for leading and managing groups in advanced sea states and tidal conditions. You will be exposed to no landing zones, surf beaches, and rescues in advanced conditions. This program is physically demanding and participants must be prepared to paddle for long periods in challenging conditions. Half of the program will take place on the Bay of Fundy. Not only will you experience the highest tides in the world, this venue will provide many different paddling options for us.
The certification available with the successful completion of this program are:
Paddle Canada Level 3 or Level 4,
BCU 4 Assessment or 5 star training and Coastal Navigation Planning

Level 1 Instructor Course
Develop your ability to teach safe kayaking skills to others, and work towards instructor certification under Paddle Canada’s National Program. This Nova Scotia-based course focuses exclusively on teaching skills and techniques. Lectures will focus on adult learning principles, class organization, liability, stroke progression and programming. This is not a skill development course. Time will be spent fine tuning strokes, but students are expected to arrive with “demonstration quality” strokes and a working knowledge of sea kayaking theory.
